Your Call for Relief is Heard by U.S. Treasury Secretary
In breaking news, the Treasury Department just announced that the U.S. government will support complete cancellation of Haiti’s debt! Your signatures, along with nearly 200,000 others, on a petition to Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner helped make this happen.
Thank you for signing the petition and helping to ensure that Haiti re-build, not re-pay burdensome and unjust debt.
This weekend, Secretary Geithner will be in Canada at the G7 meeting of finance ministers from the world’s wealthiest countries. They will be discussing the tragic earthquake in Haiti and Secretary Geithner will deliver the strong message for debt relief to the ministers. This is a critical step in developing a global agreement that will help free Haiti from nearly $1 billion in debt payments and allow for equitable recovery in the country.
